Hello reader, my name is Ryan (or Taylor), and I sing for a band called Riley!. Anyway, I guess I’m gonna tell you about a few records that changed my life in some way, shape, or form. I’m gonna go in chronological order of when I first heard them because… well, because.
My Chemical Romance – Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge
I heard this record for the first time in either the 4th or 5th grade I think and it’s arguably the reason I got into “emo” in the first place. I gave my poor mother’s computer so many viruses, adware, and god knows what from downloading all of their music through Limewire. Sorry, mom. This whole band will always have a special place in my heart, but this record is my favorite by them.
Basement – I Wish I Could Stay Here
When I got into high school, I was super into Tumblr and all I remember was everyone talking about Basement. I checked out this record and quickly rabbit-holed into the entire sub-genre of this grunge-esque? emo? inspired? alt-rock? I don’t know. This record inspired me to start a band. That band never really took off. That’s okay. Love this album.
American Football – LP1
Funny story; I actually first heard Never Meant at my local Taco Bell when I skipped part of school with one of my friends to smoke weed and get food. We were chillin’ super hard and I was eating a bean burrito and this song came on through the speakers inside and I was like “this is kinda dope.” Now I’m emo. Thanks Taco Bell.
